4 trends of the new global work model

Oct 21, 2020

The Covid-19 crisis changed the world of work forever. In areas such as information technology or financial services, there is a general rethinking of the idea of work itself: where it is done, who does it and how it is done.

Before the pandemic, remote work remained sparsely used by employers and employees, mainly due to a lack of trust in workers and inadequate computer systems. An example of this is that, only 7% of US workers were eligible for flexible work options in 2019, now the rate rises to 89%. The crisis suddenly reorganized everything: remote work has become crucial for the continuity of many companies and has spread widely in all countries regardless of their development

In that regard, companies understood that the option to work from home provides a better work-life balance, especially for those with childcare responsibilities, specific tasks, or extensive travel. Entrepreneurs began to understand that productivity is not in the presence of the offices from Monday to Friday and this is one of the main reasons why companies had refused to do remote tasks before.

Unexpected Changes – Increasing or Future Trends

According to the international business development leader of Mbc IT Talent Solutions, Marcia Morales Mejía, there are four aspects that have been transformed at work and that are worth paying special attention to, since the global panorama of business, employees, society has changed, in addition to the fact that technological advances do not stop, and consumers have changed their needs and ways of relating to the world.

1. From face-to-face to virtual: This year all companies turned to the virtual model and for this reason they have experienced structural changes in the way they interact with their workers and clients. Under this new model there is a high demand for employees who not only must respond for the same tasks, but also have new digital skills, to understand systems and technological platforms and can act in real time to the tasks assigned.

In this sense, companies understood that they do not have to have their team in the same office, but that from any city or place in the world they can present optimal and effective results, thanks to virtuality and in Mbc we managed to connect the best IT talent to solve the needs of human personnel anywhere on the planet. This is the new world without labor barriers.

2. More and better training: Faced with this new reality, companies need workers with new skills, capable of responding to technological challenges and new ways of interacting with customers and even with co-workers themselves. At this point, it is also important to train or deepen digital skills, forge global thinking and the ability to work multiculturally with teams from all over the world. Also, another aspect that draws attention is having the ability to think of a strategy for a product or service and analyze the reaction of the customer or the public. All in order to know how it reacts to changes and modifications requests and how to adapt to market requirements.

An invitation is for people to train and study areas related to IT, and also to train in so-called soft skills, such as empathy, since at the moment there is a growing demand for these professionals with such profiles.

3. Well-being matters: Companies have understood that not only results or productivity are the priority of work models. For this reason, many organizations have established the culture of well-being in their models, where not only numbers or new clients matter, but also that workers have quality of life. Both the emotional, physical and mental area have a balance and in it find a well-being experience where they not only have weekends, but even days a week to rest, to develop new interests, hobbies and even training in areas parallel to the main trade.

4. Working with robots, interacting in virtual reality: Technological developments have been so accelerated that human beings must already prepare to work with artificial intelligence models, interact with robots and even fully adapt to virtual reality. Humans and robots will coexist working. This is not a prediction; it is already a reality. Many companies are currently using robots to supplement their workforce, rather than replace it entirely.

With these new changes in work models, it is clear that the trend of working online at a distance is experiencing a decisive impulse and remote working is gaining momentum in a world that increasingly demands more flexible models. To begin changing the idea of what is possible in the workforce after the curve flattens, leaders must take control of what works today and quickly integrate it into the day-to-day. Instead of waiting for re-entry and being reactive, leaders must prepare and set expectations about the ways of working that will benefit the organization in the future, so that employees can have quality of life, train, be competent, positive and show results.
